They were taken to Europe by Christopher Columbus and proven so preferred they instantly became a standard guest in royal gardens. Presently Italy boasts over 10,000 acres of the incredible fruit which is known by trend setters all over the country as the "Prickly Pear."

Along with the growing demand for the delicious red, sweet fruit arrives the cocktail 12,000 years in the making - The Prickly Pear Margarita - correction, The Original Prickly Pear Margarita.

It's been a rocky road for the Prickly Pear Margarita. For years the appropriate recipe needed liquor proprietors to look for the extravagant fruit, (in many places a hard feat), and then try to evade injury peeling and immersing them in silver tequila. The infusion practice was a multi week affair ripe with checking, shaking, and twice daily sampling for quality.

To get around the work of the infusion practice, some proprietors used cactus pear juice or syrup. These solid liquids weighed down the drink leaving frustrated customers stuffed and bloated with heavy sugary "Fake Pear" Margaritas. And although some proprietors tried to conserve time, others attempted to conserve cash by infusing inexpensive tequilas with the idea the exquisite and sweet Prickly Pear may hide the monsterous burn of awful tequila.

Enter Voodoo Tiki Tequila. As Voodoo Tiki lore has it, mystical tiki idols were smuggled out of Africa before they could be ruined by evil forces.
